There are many ways to act in support of a domestic sustainable population – below are the specific action tools that NECSP is currently providing based on our assessment of the United States domestic situation and our current organizational capabilities. If you would like to suggest other tools, please contact us.
It is today’s political reality that only the “squeaky wheel gets oiled”, and that’s why its so important for you to consistently write your elected officials about sustainable population issues. Below are links that will take you directly to the 12 New England region US Senators. Its most effective if you write the Senators from your home state.
If you need talking points, scroll down to the bottom of the page. Meanwhile, while your deciding what to write, you can also:
Sign the petition to create a Cabinet level population and sustainability adviser
A sustainable population for the United States will require two essential components:
A stabilized domestic population
A domestic population consuming and producing sustainably.
Keeping those points in mind, tell your Senators that they should:
Create laws removing birth control pills from prescription and instead provide them free of charge to all who want them.
Ensure easy access to comprehensive modern contraceptive methods and family planning services with subsidies and sliding scale charges dependent on yearly earnings to all who want them.
Pass sustainable immigration policies that balance immigration with emigration.
Repeal per child tax deductions beyond the second child.
Implement pre-marital counseling regarding family planning, the economic benefits of small family size and the environmental consequences of population growth before issuing marriage licenses in their state.
Mandate vigorous, consistent sexual education throughout compulsory public education.
Aggressively fund public service announcements regarding family planning, the economic benefits of small family size and the environmental consequences of population growth.
Move away from creating laws to enable economic schemes based on perpetual population growth and non-renewable resource extraction and instead fund research and development of steady state economies, clean and renewable energy systems and the re-development and refurbishment of existing infrastructure.
